ABSTRACT

Knowledge discovery combined with network structure is an emerging field of network data analysis and mining. Three-way concept analysis is a method that can fit the human mind in uncertain decisions and analysis. In reality, when three-way concept analysis is placed in the background of a network, not only the three-way rules need to be obtained, but also the network characteristic values of these rules should be obtained, which is of great significance for concept cognition in the network. This paper mainly combines complex network analysis with the formal context of three-way decision. Firstly, the network formal context of three-way decision (NFC3WD) is proposed to unify the two studies mentioned above into one data framework. Then, the network weaken-concepts of three-way decision (NWC3WD) and their corresponding sub-networks are studied. Therefore, we can not only find out the network weaken-concepts but also know the average influence of the sub-network, as well as the influence difference within the sub-network. Furthermore, the concept logic of network and the properties of its operators are put forward, which lays a foundation for designing the algorithm of rule extraction. Subsequently, the bidirectional rule extraction algorithm and reduction algorithm based on confidence degree are also explored. Meanwhile, these algorithms are applied to the diagnosis examples of COVID-19 from which we can not only get diagnostic rules, but also know the importance of the population corresponding to these diagnostic rules in the network through network eigenvalues. Finally, experimental analysis is made to show the superiority of the proposed method.

ABSTRACT

The bioinformatics discipline seeks to solve problems in biology with computational theories and methods. Formal concept analysis (FCA) is one such theoretical model, based on partial orders. FCA allows the user to examine the structural properties of data based on which subsets of the dataset depend on each other. This article surveys the current literature related to the use of FCA for bioinformatics. The survey begins with a discussion of FCA, its hierarchical advantages, several advanced models of FCA, and lattice management strategies. It then examines how FCA has been used in bioinformatics applications, followed by future prospects of FCA in those areas. The applications addressed include gene data analysis (with next-generation sequencing), biomarkers discovery, protein-protein interaction, disease analysis (including COVID-19, cancer, and others), drug design and development, healthcare informatics, biomedical ontologies, and phylogeny. Some of the most promising prospects of FCA are identifying influential nodes in a network representing protein-protein interactions, determining critical concepts to discover biomarkers, integrating machine learning and deep learning for cancer classification, and pattern matching for next-generation sequencing. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: An understanding of nurse well-being remains elusive, particularly in the current toxic health care environment. Therefore, a conceptual definition of nurse well-being is needed. PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper is to report results of a concept analysis of nurse well-being. METHODS: Rodgers' Evolutionary Method of concept analysis was used to examine the attributes, antecedents, consequences, and related concepts of nurse well-being. FINDINGS: Findings revealed varying levels of nurse well-being: individual, organizational and community. Individual attributes included happiness, satisfaction, optimism, compassion, gratitude, forgiveness, and sound body/spirit. Organizational/community attributes included teamwork, sense of mission, pride in work, and social integration. Antecedents reflected commonalities with Maslow's hierarchy of needs, ranging from basic human needs to self-actualization. Consequences included resilience, collegial relationships, continued growth and development, empowerment, purposeful work, and physical/mental health. DISCUSSION: Standardized definitions of individual and organizational/community nurse well-being should guide future research and policy development. Organizations must build capacity for nurses' well-being and explore its connection to patient safety and quality outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Outbreaks of the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 infection that started in Wuhan, China, have quickly spread worldwide. The current situation has contributed to a dynamic rate of hospital admissions. Global efforts by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) communities to develop solutions to assist COVID-19-related research have escalated ever since. However, despite overwhelming efforts from the AI and ML community, many machine learning-based AI systems have been designed as black boxes. This paper proposes a model that utilizes Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) to explain a machine learning technique called Long-short Term Memory (LSTM) on a dataset of hospital admissions due to COVID-19 in the United Kingdom. This paper intends to increase the transparency of decision-making in the era of ML by using the proposed LSTM-FCA explainable model. Both LSTM and FCA are able to evaluate the data and explain the model to make the results more understandable and interpretable. The results and discussions are helpful and may lead to new research to optimize the use of ML in various real-world applications and to contain the disease.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To provide a critical analysis of the concept of moral distress (MD) in critical care (CC) nursing. BACKGROUND: Despite extensive inquiry pertaining to the legitimacy of MD within nursing discourse, some authors still question its relevancy to the profession. However, amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, MD is generating a significant amount of discussion anew, warranting the further exploration of the concept within CC nursing to provide clarity and expand on the definition. DESIGN: Rodger's Evolutionary Concept Analysis method was used to guide this analysis. METHODS: Related terms, attributes, antecedents, and consequences of MD were identified using current literature. RESULTS: The results of this analysis demonstrate strong congruence between the attributes, antecedents, and negative consequences pertaining to MD. However, a new theme has emerged from this review of the contemporary literature, highlighting the potential unexpected positive outcomes perceived by nurses who experience MD, including the provision of better care, increased levels of empathy, and enhanced opportunities for ethical reflection.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has put postsecondary students across the world at risk of psychological distress, negatively impacting their basic psychological well-being, including self-determination. Although the concept of self-determination has been widely discussed in literature, it is poorly understood within the context of postsecondary students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to examine the concept of self-determination (SD) as it relates to postsecondary students amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rodgers' evolutionary method of concept analysis was used. PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and ERIC were electronically searched using the keywords "postsecondary students" "coronavirus pandemic" and "self-determination." The historical, legal, educational, and health science literature were investigated to generate a holistic definition of SD in the past. This analysis has identified the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of self-determination in postsecondary students during this global health crisis. This analysis adds to the knowledge base regarding the evolution, significance, and application of the concept of SD in the context of postsecondary students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Implications for future research were also explored, such as using strategies to promote SD in postsecondary students to develop resilience during the pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The concept of resilience has been used as a descriptor for individuals and organizations with the dominant themes of bouncing back and moving forward. AIMS: To examine the concept of resilience in providers and healthcare teams during pandemic disasters. RESEARCH DESIGN: Walker and Avant's eight-step concept analysis method. DATA SOURCE: CINAHL, EBSCO Host, PubMed, and SCOPUS were searched using the combined terms "resilience" or "resiliency" or "resilient" and "healthcare professionals," or "healthcare worker" or "healthcare team" or "physician" or "nurse" or "doctor" and "pandemic" or "disaster." METHODS: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Checklist was used to review the literature and apply findings using the eight-step Walker and Avant method for concept analysis. RESULTS: Three clusters emerged as attributes of individual resilience that may be applied to healthcare teams in times of pandemic disasters: (1) resilience is a dynamic contextual process, (2) resilience stabilizes the team to maintain a routine level of function, and (3) resilience is a catalyst for the actualization of innate or acquired skills and ability within the healthcare team. CONCLUSION: This analysis suggests that resilience enhances the healthcare team's ability to maintain function during acute changes created by pandemic disasters. Resilience in healthcare teams during pandemics requires future research to explore the phenomenon.

At the same time, Governments have designed a set of measures to deal with the Pandemic. In addition, several institutions have studied the economical effects of the situation in each country. In this work, we combine these three data sources and illustrate how Formal Concept Analysis can become a useful tool to discover relationships among these three views of the situation: health, politics and economy. ABSTRACT

AIM: To offer a clear understanding of the definition, attributes, antecedents, and consequences of undergraduate nursing students' clinical judgment in the nursing education context. BACKGROUND: Clinical judgment is a concept with broad uses among healthcare professionals. Its definitions and attributes vary across contexts. There is no established understanding of clinical judgment in nursing students. DESIGN: This concept analysis was performed using the eight steps of Walker and Avant's framework. DATA SOURCES: A literature search was conducted using search engines and included peer-reviewed articles related to clinical judgment in nursing students. RESULTS: Clinical judgment in nursing students was defined as the cognitive process exhibited via a nursing action by observation, patient assessment, interpreting, and prioritizing data that lead to responding using the appropriate nursing practice with the patient. Reflection was used to evaluate nursing students' clinical judgment to revise nursing practice. Antecedents included nursing education curriculum, student's knowledge, previous clinical experience, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. The consequences of clinical judgment were clinical judgment ability, safe nursing practice, nursing care quality, and patient safety. CONCLUSIONS: This concept analysis gives clear insights into the definition, attributes, antecedents, and consequences of undergraduate nursing student's clinical judgment.

The aerospace industry must increase air transport resistance against health threats and regain passenger confidence. The basis of the presented secure zones concept is to create 'free infectious zones' in the building terminal through airport health screening of passengers, crews, and airport workers. The concept analyses methods of detecting infectious diseases in force at the airport so that they can be available in a short time frame at an affordable cost and to the extent necessary. The potential place of the passenger health screening must be based on non-touch devices using suitable industrial standards for the regulations creation, including the implementation phase. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

A context-specific delineation of research approaches to resilience in the perinatal and early motherhood literature is currently lacking. A principle-based concept analysis was used to establish a description of how women's resilience is currently conceptualised and operationalised within empirical research in the perinatal period and early motherhood (defined as up to five-years postpartum). CINAHL, Medline, PsychInfo, EMBASE, ASSIA, Web of Science, Scielo, Maternity and Infant Care, the Cochrane Library, and the World Health Organization were systematically searched (January/February 2020 and March 2022). Fifty-six studies met the inclusion criteria. Analysis demonstrated interchangeable use of associated concepts such as 'coping', 'coping strategies', and 'adaptation'. Resilience was frequently operationalised as the absence of illness symptomatology, rather than the presence of mental well-being. Investigations of positive areas of functioning were predominately related to the mother's family role. There was limited qualitative exploration of women's perspectives. Recommendations for the pragmatic application of resilience research were not well developed. The narrow operationalisation of resilience by mental ill-health and parental role, and the distinct absence of women's perspectives, restricts the logical maturity and pragmatic application of the concept. Future research may benefit from exploration of women's insights on indicators that might best reflect positive functioning and resilience in this period.

ABSTRACT

The 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is dubbed as one of the deadliest and worst global pandemics. Many pandemic policies and programs were implemented in different countries across the globe, including the creation of vaccines that would enhance human immunity against the symptoms caused by the virus. Since then, debates on vaccines have emerged, citing vaccine hesitancy often associated with certain factors like socioeconomic status, beliefs, and vaccine awareness. This birthed to an intensive call for vaccine literacy as an effective means of encouraging people to get vaccinated against viruses. This paper uses the Walker and Avant's (2019, Strategies for theory construction in nursing, 6th edn. New York, NY: Pearson) approach of concept analysis with the help of its eight systematic stages. Results showed that vaccine literacy was adopted after the concept of health literacy. It is defined as a process of providing vaccine information, building communication, and increasing people's engagement about vaccines. The identified defining attributes of vaccine literacy include 'health literacy', 'disease prevention', 'education', and 'immunization'. Vaccine literacy is considered relevant in the nursing practice as knowledge on vaccine literacy easily advances nurses' practice roles through vaccination education, creating developmental policies about vaccines, and prescribing immunization to patients.

Higher education institutions are frequently using knowledge management to achieve their mission. Due to COVID-19, education has moved to online, this has led to an increasing need for knowledge management and thus put under scrutiny to obtain the best results. However, successful knowledge management requires definition as the first step. Knowledge Management is a complex and multi-dimensional concept making its definition hard to craft. The lack of well-defined universally accepted definition is a problem associated with KM is due to the diversity of areas it exists in, lack of consensus and others. In this paper, an objective concept analysis was undertaken to examine the attributes, characteristics and uses of KM for the purpose of defining KM in the higher educational institution. Therefore, this paper aims at deriving a definition of the term knowledge management with the help of concept analysis which is a recognized method for the terminological studies. The study concluded with a definition based on the results of the analysis. © 2021 IEEE.

BACKGROUND: Household emergency preparedness, at the individual and family micro-level, is often identified as below national disaster preparedness standards. AIMS: Conceptual clarity of household emergency preparedness is foundational for disaster preparedness research, theory construction, and instrument use. MATERIALS & METHODS: Adhering to Walker and Avant's (2019) concept analysis method, the purpose of this paper is to outline the concept of household emergency preparedness by identifying the uses of the concept, the defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. Literature sources were identified using the Cumulative Index for Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL), ProQuest Central, PsycInfo, PubMed, and government websites. CONCLUSION: Concept clarification is critical for future selection of research designs involving multidisciplinary community-based interventions for household emergency preparedness, as well as to understand how preparedness efforts at the individual and family micro-level may influence larger disaster preparedness system outcomes.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The principal difficulty of long-term tuberculosis (TB) treatment is patient nonadherence. During pandemic, nonadherence of TB treatment affects mortality since TB patients are more vulnerable to COVID-19. AIM: The purpose of this concept analysis was to clarify and analyze the concept of treatment adherence. METHODS: Analysis concept was conducted using the Walker and Avant’s method from relevant studies published by EBSCO, PubMed, ProQuest, Wiley Online Library, and Springer in 2003–2021. RESULTS: Five attributes characterizing the concept of treatment adherence from thirteen articles were identified: individual behavior, relationship, mutual participation, shared decision-making, and agreement. CONCLUSION: This concept analysis revealed that TB treatment adherence involves many aspects, including the patient, family, society, health professionals, and policy. These findings help to understand the contribution of major attributes, thereby promoting the body of knowledge on TB and contributing to its elimination during COVID-19 pandemic. © 2021 Kristina Lisum, Agung Waluyo, Astuti Yuni Nursasi.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Cancer is a taxing chronic disease that demands substantial care, most of which is shouldered by informal caregivers. As a result, cancer caregivers often have to manage considerable challenges that could result in severe physical and psychological health consequences. Technology-based interventions have the potential to address many, if not all, of the obstacles caregivers encounter while caring for patients with cancer. However, although the application of technology-based interventions is on the rise, the term is seldom defined in research or practice. Considering that the lack of conceptual clarity of the term could compromise the effectiveness of technology-based interventions for cancer caregivers, timely research is needed to bridge this gap. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to clarify the meaning of technology-based interventions in the context of cancer caregiving and provide a definition that can be used by cancer caregivers, patients, clinicians, and researchers to facilitate evidence-based research and practice. METHODS: The 8-step concept analysis method by Walker and Avant was used to analyze the concept of technology-based interventions in the context of cancer caregiving. PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Scopus were searched for studies that examined technology-based interventions for cancer caregivers. RESULTS: The defining attributes of technology-based interventions were recognized as being accessible, affordable, convenient, and user-friendly. On the basis of insights gained on the defining attributes, antecedents to, and consequences of technology-based interventions through the concept analysis process, technology-based interventions were defined as the use of technology to design, develop, and deliver health promotion contents and strategies aimed at inducing or improving positive physical or psychological health outcomes in cancer caregivers. CONCLUSIONS: This study clarified the meaning of technology-based interventions in the context of cancer caregiving and provided a clear definition that can be used by caregivers, patients, clinicians, and researchers to facilitate evidence-based oncology practice. A clear conceptualization of technology-based interventions lays foundations for better intervention design and research outcomes, which in turn have the potential to help health care professionals address the needs and preferences of cancer caregivers more cost-effectively.

PURPOSE: This paper aims to clarify the concept of reflective practice in nursing by using Rodgers' evolutionary method of concept analysis. DATA SOURCES: Literature and references on the concept of reflective practice were obtained from two databases: Scopus and Nursing and Allied health database. Peer-reviewed articles published in English language between 2011-2021 that included the terms 'reflection' and/or 'reflective practice' in the title were selected. Seminal pieces of work were also considered in this analysis. A total of 23 works were included. Most of the selected works addressed the concept of reflective practice in nursing education or nursing practice. DATA SYNTHESIS: The data analysis integrated the stages identified in Rodgers' method of concept analysis to analyze the concept of reflective practice. Analysis of selected works provided an understanding of common surrogates, antecedents, attributes, and consequences of the concept of reflective practice. CONCLUSIONS: Reflective practice is a cognitive skill that demands conscious effort to look at a situation with an awareness of own beliefs, values, and practice enabling nurses to learn from experiences, incorporate that learning in improving patient care outcomes. It also leads to knowledge development in nursing. Considering the current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, this paper identifies the need for nurses to go beyond reflection-on-action and also include reflection-in-action and reflection-for-action as part of their practice. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: This analysis identifies the need for future nursing researchers to develop reflective models or strategies that promote reflection among nurses and nursing students before, during, and after the clinical experiences.

This study aimed to analyze the concept of the "feelings of entrapment" during the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic using a systematic review. We included literature based on content and outcomes related to feelings of entrapment, such as antecedents, attributes, and consequences. The exclusion criteria were studies that did not have inappropriate subject, content, conceptual definition, and degree thesis was excluded. Walker and Avant's process of concept analysis was used in this systematic literature review. The attributes of the concept of feelings of entrapment during the COVID-19 pandemic were found to be feelings of: (1) being out of control, (2) no escape, (3) being trapped, (4) being robbed, and (5) hopelessness. The causes for these were identified as (1) the COVID-19 pandemic, (2) lockdown system, (3) restricted situation, (4) uncertain future, (5) economic hardship, and (6) poor coping abilities. Consequences of the concept were: (1) increased suicide, (2) decreased mental health, and (3) decreased well-being. In situations such as COVID-19, it is important need to know what feelings of entrapment's antecedents and attributes are to prevent suicide and enhance mental health and well-being. Based on the results of this study, counseling services, policies, and systems for relieving feelings of entrapment in the COVID-19 situation are recommended.

ABSTRACT

The spread of Covid-19 profoundly changed citizens' daily lives due to the introduction of new modes of work and access to services based on smart technologies. Although the relevance of new technologies as strategic levers for crisis resolution has been widely debated before the pandemic, especially in the smart cities' context, how individuals have agreed to include the technological changes dictated by the pandemic in their daily interactions remains an open question. This paper aims at detecting citizens' sentiment toward technology before and after the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic using Fuzzy Formal Concept Analysis (FFCA) to analyze a large corpus of tweets. Specifically, citizens' attitudes in five cities (Berlin, Dublin, London, Milan, and Madrid) were explored to extract and classify the key topics related to the degree of confidence, familiarity and approval of new technologies. The results shed light on the complex technology acceptance process and help managers identify the potential negative effects of smart technologies. In this way, the study enhances scholars' and practitioners' understanding of the strategies for enabling the use of technology within smart cities to manage the transformations introduced by the health emergency and guide citizens' behaviour.
